Visitors’ Perception Regarding Floating Treatment Wetlands in an Urban Green Space: Functionality and Emotional Values

چکیده
Floating treatment wetlands (FTW) are artificial structures used for water quality improvement through the hydroponic growth of certain macrophytes and their rhizospheric bacteria, with capacity pollutant removal. Through application face-to-face questionnaires, our study aimed to analyze visitors’ perception structure, functionality, benefits FTW installed in two ponds one green space Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, emotional experience that these could incite those same visitors. Visitors identified plant component as most noticeable one, perceived filtering/cleaning principal function, reported positive negative emotions proportion. The perceptions varied according age, school level, occupation. Positive regarding were linked maintenance ponds. Visitors’ awareness composition function was associated presence informative signs. understanding about can be integrated into management programs successful participative cleaning bodies urban settings. Along people’s participation, municipality city must improve important given its repercussions on perception.

Floating treatment wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment.
Floating islands are a form of treatment wetland characterized by a mat of synthetic matrix at the water surface into which macrophytes can be planted and through which water passes. We evaluated two matrix materials for treating domestic wastewater, recycled plastic and recycled carpet fibers, for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and nitrogen removal. These materials were compared to pea gravel or...
متن کاملUrban Green Space Perception and Its Contribution to Well-Being
Individual perceptions are essential when evaluating the well-being benefits from urban green spaces. This study predicted the influence of perceived green space characteristics in the city of Szeged, Hungary, on two well-being variables: the green space visitors' level of satisfaction and the self-reported quality of life. The applied logistic regression analysis used nine predictors: seven pe...
متن کاملPlanning the Green Walkable City: Conceptualizing Values and Conflicts for Urban Green Space Strategies in Stockholm
Urban green spaces are essential elements of cities, contributing to the quality of life in numerous ways. However, densification strategies create a complex relationship between urban development and the quality, as well as the quantity, of urban green space. This paper examines the Green Walkable City Programme in Stockholm, a document developed to supplement the comprehensive plan as a strat...
متن کاملFloating Treatment Wetlands: an Innovative Option for Stormwater Quality Applications
Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) are an innovative variant of the more traditional constructed wetland and pond technologies that offer great potential for treatment of urban stormwaters. FTWs employ rooted, emergent macrophytes (similar to those used in surface and subsurface flow wetlands) growing on a mat floating on the surface of the water rather than rooted in the sediments. Thus, they ...
متن کاملUrban green space and stress
This research is part of the Scottish Government’s GreenHealth project. It asks if there is a link between green space and stress in deprived urban communities. Overall, it finds evidence that more urban green space is favourably associated with lower levels of selfreported stress and reduced physiological stress, as indicated by diurnal salivary cortisol patterns in a sample of middle-aged men...
